Lead, Teach, Grow: A short video about the power of end-of-life education
Apr 05, 2026If you feel called to end-of-life work you’ve probably discovered that doing meaningful work and building a financially-sustainable practice can be challenging and frustrating. You know there are plenty of people who need what you have to offer, but you wonder how those people will actually find you.
Are you one of those who feel drawn to supporting people through illness, dying, and grief, or preparing folks for their inevitable death so they can live fully now?
I know this path isn’t for everyone. Some of you may simply be curious about how people find their way to support around the end of life.
For any of you, please read on!
A discovery we didn’t expect
More than ten years ago, when Michelle Pante and I began offering heart-centered end-of-life education and planning workshops, we had a simple intention. We wanted to bring meaningful conversations about mortality into the open.
The public education we offered, helped thousands of people live with purpose, love, and intention, so that when the time came, they could die in peace.
At the time, we thought the workshops themselves were “it!”
But something unexpected also happened. After almost every workshop, people would approach us and say things like:
"That workshop opened something for me."
"I think I need more help with this."
"Could we talk one-on-one?"
The workshops sparked something in them. They were ready to go deeper, and wanted someone to walk alongside them as they did. That’s when I realized something important.
Education can become the front door to a strong and steady end-of-life practice.
When people attend a workshop, they begin to understand what they need.
They get to know you.
They begin to trust you.
And when the time is right, they naturally reach out for deeper support.
Someone might attend a workshop about advance care planning… and later realize they want guidance preparing their family for future decisions, exploring their legacy, or navigating the emotional realities of mortality.
Lead. Teach. Grow:
Build your EOL Practice through Education
Because I’ve seen how powerful this approach can be, I recorded a 24-minute video explaining how end-of-life education can help people naturally move toward working with you. In it, I share:
- why education builds trust faster than traditional marketing
- how workshops create meaningful entry points for your work
- how education can become a steady foundation for your practice
If you are already working in the end-of-life field — as a death doula, grief practitioner, celebrant, spiritual care provider, planner, organizer, or in another role — this approach can help the people who need your support find their way to you.
And if you are considering entering the field, education can be one of the most powerful ways to begin.
